This thing is heavy-duty! It feels like someone took a real porthole and put a mirror into the frame instead of a piece of glass. You can unscrew the fasteners and swing open the mirror part on its hinges, although I’m not sure of the most practical way to use that feature, since despite some of the product photos, it is definitely not big enough to use as a substitute for a bathroom mirror over a vanity. I got the 11-inch version and it is (as described) 11 inches with a 7-inch mirror. That’s just not medicine cabinet sized even if the photos want you to believe it is.
It makes a fun decorative mirror just on its own, and that’s why I got it. You could also place something else behind it, in or on a wall, as a secret hidden feature. As described in the listing, it doesn’t come with hanging hardware. There are three holes in it (one behind the hinge, and one under each fastener) that presumably are for mounting it. You could also set it in a picture frame stand on a desk, but however you display it, you’ll definitely want to make sure it’s secure, since it weighs a little over two pounds and if it falls down, it will probably break the mirror as well as damaging tile or other objects. That’s not actually a con, just a warning about what a heavy, solid-feeling object it is. A fun and high-quality piece of nautical-themed decor!
